A forest helps contain the climate change. As part of the FSC® Friday, we would like to invite you to learn more about the woods and find out how we help protect them with the FSC® certification.
A forest utilizes large amounts of CO2, thus removing it from the atmosphere. It is like a giant vacuum cleaner: it absorbs and stores CO2 in the biomass. Forests have considerable global importance – according to the statistics, by protecting 400 million hectares of forests, we could reduce CO2 emissions by 700 Gt by 2050. In the EU countries it is estimated that the woods could absorb 8.9% of the total greenhouse gas emissions each year.
Our mission is to ensure responsible use of wood resources in our production processes and to give equal priority to environmental, social and economic issues. Since 2009 we’ve been making efforts to this end, based on the FSC® certification.
FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international non-profit organisation for environmental protection, which is an association of owners of forest land, social organisations and companies operating in the wood and paper processing industry. The organisation supports environment-friendly, socially beneficial and economically profitable management of global forest resources, so as to maintain balance between protecting the forest – its lifetime and biodiversity - and the demand of the present and future generations for wood.
Main underlying principles behind FSC®:
No deforestation – although you do fell down the trees, the forest area is not reduced over time.
Environmental protection – FSC standards require maintaining biodiversity and protecting valuable areas.
Respecting the rights of indigenous and local communities – managing forests contributes to the lasting social and economic wellbeing of a specific society and forest workers.
Fair and safe working environment
You need to complete a number of stages to obtain the certificate. FSC® principles must be followed at every stage of obtaining and processing the raw material – it all starts with controlling the forest plantations, manufacturing finished goods, packaging, distribution and sales.
As part of the FSC® system, we impact the achievement of the UN Sustainability Goals and ensure compliance with the procurement policy in the public and private sector, which defines the materials from sustainable sources.
Nowy Styl offers a wide range of FSC-certified products made of wood. Our products labelled with the FSC® logo include e.g.: Lupino, Njord and Embla.
The FSC® certificate is a guarantee that our products are made of wood from a sustainable source, which was subject to inspection with regard to its management and distribution.
FSC® Friday
In order to make the society aware of how important sustainable forest management is and to help people notice the significant relationship between the climate and forests, on 24th September 2021 a global event known as “FSC Friday” will take place.
Since we participate in this event, we would like to invite our employees and partners to join in by:
increasing their knowledge of the importance of forests and FSC certification
observing the product labels - it is possible to find balance between obtaining wood and protecting the environment and it’s up to us!
You can learn more about how our operations impact the environment on the website Sustainability.
